How do I get a transparent signature PNG?

Short answer: Create your signature in Signed (or our free web tool) and export it with a transparent background — it drops cleanly onto any document without a white box.

A transparent signature PNG is a signature image with no background — so it drops onto any document without an ugly white rectangle covering the line underneath. Two ways to get one:

  • The free web tool. Open our signature generator, draw your signature (or type your name and pick a handwriting style), and download it — the PNG exports with a transparent background by default, and there's an SVG option if you want a vector that stays crisp at any size. No signup, no watermark, nothing uploaded.
  • The Signed app. Signatures you create in Signed are stored as clean, transparent-background artwork automatically — that's what lets them sit naturally on a PDF's signature line, like ink on paper.

The classic mistake to avoid: JPG can't store transparency. If you remove a background and save as JPG, the white comes right back. Always export PNG (or SVG) for a transparent signature.

If you're digitising a paper signature instead — scanning it and knocking out the white — that works too, but watch for grey halos around the strokes; boosting contrast before removing the background helps.
